SAReads Book Bank Requests “On Hold” Until Summer Book Drive Books Are Shelved

Back to Newsletter>>

The word is out! The SAReads Book Bank donated a record number of books to Bexar County teachers this summer. The book bank provided over 17,000 books to area teachers just in time for back-to-school. Since January, the book bank provided over 28,000 books to teachers and public school librarians for use by children in their classroom libraries, as well as through book giveaways and special school events. With over 60 donation locations, the 2017 SAReads Summer Book Drive collected over 20,000 books to be redistributed to children across Bexar County. Thanks to the many community partners who contributed to the book drive's success: Firstmark Credit Union, San Antonio Public Library, YMCA of Greater San Antonio, Whole Foods Market (San Antonio Locations), The Twig Book Shop, and Dead Tree Books.

While the SAReads Book Bank has provided more books to children through teachers and nonprofits than ever before, SAReads is temporarily postponing book requests until Summer Book Drive books can be processed and shelved. Those who have already requested free books from the SAReads Book Bank have been placed on a waitlist and will be contacted as soon as there is a sufficient inventory of books to select from. We will reopen the book request form as soon as possible. Please stay turned.

On behalf of the thousands of children the #SAReadsBookBank serves, THANK YOU for your #SummerBookDrive donations! Our hearts are as full as our book collection barrels! But the work isn't done yet!  Volunteer power will help us resume SAReads Book Bank operations faster! If you or your group is interested in helping #stocktheshelves, submit our online form and SAReads will contact you to set up an volunteer appointment.
