The school year is almost over…
and many children in San Antonio will spend their summer months in homes without books.
You can help ensure that San Antonio children have continued access to books by helping us fill our bookshelf during the Big Give on May 3rd!
- Children who are given access to books during the summer perform 35-40% better on reading achievement tests than those without significant access to books.
- A child who only reads 1 minute a day outside school will be exposed to 8,000 additional words by the end of 6th grade. In contrast, a child that reads just 20 minutes a day will be exposed to 1.8 million words.
- The amount of time students spent in “independent reading” was the best predictor of future reading achievement, comprehension, and verbal fluency.
Since its inception, the SAReads Book Bank has donated more than 170,000 books to the children of Bexar County. You can help feed young minds by Giving Big on May 3rd!
