SAReads Provides Books For Edgewood Elementary Students

This past week, the SAReads Book Bank was honored to partner with State Representative Justin Rodriguez in providing books to students in Edgewood ISD. With more than 6,500 books boxed up and delivered, each student at Edgewood’s 10 elementary campuses left school with a book!

Edgewood faculty and staff met up at the SAReads Book Bank where 100 boxes of books were loaded onto trucks and suburbans provided by Vara Chevrolet and transported to the schools. There, eager students greeted the delivery caravan, excited to receive their books.

Many households in San Antonio are in ‘book deserts’ characterized by a lack of access to books and few books available at home.  In addition, many teachers report having to provide books for their classrooms out-of-pocket, showing a real need for books within San Antonio classrooms. The SAReads Book Bank seeks to eradicate book deserts by providing books directly to children and classrooms. The book bank has distributed more than 220,000 books since 2010.

We’re excited these books will find new homes with Edgewood students and help to develop their love of reading!
