Literacy San Antonio, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated teacher who is excited about improving student reading outcomes by empowering teachers to practice the science of reading. The SAReads Literacy Facilitator (“Facilitator”) reports directly to the Literacy San Antonio Executive Director and is responsible for supporting elementary school teachers and staff with implementation of explicit, systematic reading instruction in elementary classrooms. The Facilitator works directly with professional trainers, school principals, academic coaches, and teachers to facilitate the implementation of Science-Based Reading Instruction (SBRI) in partner schools. The Facilitator assists with data collection and analysis to guide teachers’ instructional decisions. The Facilitator assists with the development of new SAReads initiatives, such as expanding education partnerships and teacher training programs, as well as working with middle school Reading interventionist to ease the transition of elementary students to 6th grade.
The Facilitator is responsible for a number of external facing functions including collaborating with education partners to strengthen programs and outcomes. This position requires a combination of strong analytical and interpersonal skills. This is a full-time, exempt position, hired by and directly accountable to the Executive Director.
Build positive relations with campus literacy teams, external partners and SAReads staff.
Facilitate SAReads program implementation with campus literacy teams, school administrators, principals, and teachers.
Assist campus literacy teams with planning and/or leading monthly grade-level team meetings to conduct business specific to the grade, including differentiated coaching, using assessment data for planning instruction, and developing instructional materials for small group instruction.
Observe teachers during instruction and assist them with classroom modeling, coaching, classroom walkthroughs.
Provide positive, constructive feedback to teachers.
Adapt instructional resources to increase SBRI implementation in the classroom.
Assist SAReads literacy teams and guide teachers to use reading assessment data to plan effective intervention for students.
Provide leadership in grade-level team meetings when/if possible and in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
Work toward mastery of the 5 major components of effective reading instruction: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension.
Participate in SAReads professional development.
Administer “Teacher Knowledge Survey” for pre- and post-project data.
Provide, assist, and develop district and campus delivery of Professional Development sessions to empower teachers and leadership teams to use the science of reading.
Coordinate with district and campus administrators to develop long term plans to sustain explicit, systematic reading instruction.
Data Management & Analysis The Literacy Facilitator will assist with the following:
Assist SAReads analyst with development of systems for data analysis, surveys, and banking stories to share with the community and funders.
Observe and collect data regarding teacher implementation of SBRI in classroom instruction and teacher knowledge of SBRI.
Assess program performance and recommend possible improvements.
Assist with accurate reporting of program impact.
Assist with the collection & analysis of student reading proficiency data.
Assist with the collection & analysis of reading instruction observations.
Marketing & Communication
Assist (as needed) with the design and content of promotional videos, brochures, websites, grants and other key communications regarding the importance the science of reading.
Present the impact of the SAReads program to board members, community members and the media (as needed).
Draft, review and edit documents (including funding proposals and reports) that pertain to the SAReads program (as needed).
Assist with SAReads events as needed.
Minimum Education, Experience & Training Equivalent
Degree in Education with emphasis in Reading Instruction.
Experience teaching in public school elementary grades; K-2 preferred.
Public school and/or district leadership experience preferred.
Advanced degree preferred.
Experience delivering professional development to teachers.
Experience working with district and campus leadership to drive system change preferred.
Minimum of 8 years professional experience.
