All teachers at Spicewood Park are learning to use science-based reading instruction (SBRI) in their kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms. Reading researchers agree that supporting teachers through SBRI training and ongoing professional coaching helps even the most struggling students learn to read.

SAReads Book Bank Requests “On Hold” Until Summer Book Drive Books Are Shelved

The word is out! The SAReads Book Bank donated a record number of books to Bexar County teachers this summer. The book bank provided over 17,000 books to area teachers just in time for back-to-school.

SAReads Tutor Corps Expands

Staring fall 2017, the SAReads Tutor Corps increased 60% and extended tutoring to include 4th graders. Students previously had the opportunity to participate in SAReads tutoring from kindergarten through 3rd grade. SAReads extended tutoring through 4th grade this year and will include 5th grade next fall.

By May 2017, SAReads completed five years of research-based reading tutoring, serving more than 800 students and over 1,000 preservice teachers from Texas A&M University - San Antonio.

Jennifer Perloff of Phyllis Browning Company served as Literacy San Antonio, Inc. Board Chair from 2016 to 2017. Ms. Perloff was instrumental in organizing multiple fundraising events and forming the SAReads Society, which raised thousands of dollars for SAReads programs. Please join us in thanking Ms. Perloff for her exemplary service as Board Chair.

Dr. Kathryn E. Keeton of Minerva Work Solutions PLLC has been selected as incoming Literacy San Antonio, Inc. Board Chair. Dr. Keeton is an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist and a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Texas. There are many reasons SAReads and Minerva are a good match. In particular, SAReads is data-driven, and centers around improving teacher instruction.


Do you have a passion for books and want to invest in your community?  SAReads wants to provide you with an opportunity for learning and growth. This is a full- time, exempt position.  See the job announcement for additional information.

The Ballet Conservatory of South Texas performs Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet along with Peter & The Wolf. Bring a new book to donate to SAReads, and receive a "fancy" surprise!
