Every child deserves to learn to read. Every child deserves a teacher trained in the science of reading.

Who We Are

TX Reads increases the number of children reading on grade level by empowering teachers to align instruction with the science of reading. TX Reads is a project of Literacy San Antonio, Inc., a not-for-profit born in 2010 from the Junior League of San Antonio, Inc.

TX Reads has grown slowly and intentionally with a mission to improve children’s reading outcomes. We are incredibly proud to be a force for good serving children, parents and educators.

What We Do

Part of improving children’s reading outcomes is understanding how to help teachers connect reading theory to classroom practice and instructional materials. Through Literacy in Action, we partner with teachers, instructional leaders and district administrators to streamline the process of shifting instruction to structured literacy.

TEA Authorized Reading Academy

Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires elementary teachers and principals to learn the science of teaching reading through the Texas Reading Academy. TX Reads is a Texas Education Agency Authorized Reading Academy.
